GANGTOK, 02 June: Sikkim University has released the results of entrance examinations conducted by it on 07 and 08 May at 32 centres across the country and three foreign centres [Dhaka, Kathmandu and Thimpu]. An SU press release informs that the list of successful candidates has been posted on the university website www.sikkimuniversity.in
Dr Om Prasad Gadde, Associate Fellow and Convener Admissions, informs that entrance examinations were held for the 24 courses now offered by the university and were taken by 1,260 students vying for the 580 available seats in various UG-PG integrated programmes and Post Graduate programmes.
About 293 students have now qualified to take admission into these courses. Sikkim University also offers 5 MPhil/ PhD programmes in Microbiology, Sociology, Physical Sciences, Sociology, International Relations and Peace & Conflict Studies and Management, the release informs. This year, the University has started eight new programmes - earth sciences, ethno-botany, management, computer sciences, music, Nepali language and literature, tea development and management.
Over 450 students from Sikkim applied for these programmes. In Gangtok centre, 388 students sat for the examination as against 64 at Namchi, 109 at Siliguri, 42 in Kalimpong and 97 in Darjeeling centres.
Significantly, SU is the first Central University to conduct entrance examinations in Thimphu and Dhaka and stands second among Central Universities in terms of the number of entrance examination centres.
The entrance exam centres were at: Agartala, Ahmadabad, Aizawl, Allahabad, Bangalore, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Cochin, Darjeeling, Dehradun, Gangtok, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jammu, Kalimpong, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Namchi, New Delhi, Patna, Pune, Ranchi, Shillong, Siliguri, Srinagar, Vishakhapattanam, Dhaka, Kathmandu and Thimphu.
Students who have qualified into various UG-PG integrated and PG programmes can complete the registration and other admission formalities between 02 to 17 June at the Library Conference Hall of the University from 9.30 a.m. to 6 p.m. There are provisions for second list in some courses which will be announced on 18 June. Classes for Monsoon Semester (July 2011) will start from Monday, 11 July 2011, the release informs.
