SPARK donates Rs. 15K for child with neurological complications at STNM Hospital

GANGTOK, 03 June: Members of ‘Spark’, n NGO from Singtam, donated an amount of Rs. 15,000 towards the treatment of 9- year- old Anil Subba from Kabi, North Sikkim, who is undergoing treatment for neurological complications here at STNM Hospital today.
The NGO established in 2010 which has a total of 16 active members and been working on AIDS awareness through street quizzes, folk dance competitions, had collected the amount through contributions from the residents of Singtam.
Six representatives, Mohan Pradhan Neeraj, TB Pradhan advisors, Praveen Pradhan, president, Nangshel Lhamu Sherpa, vice president, Praja Pradhan and Prakash Sundas both  members were here at STNM Hospital today to enquire after the child who is undergoing treatment here at the pediatric ward.

“We personally called on the doctors in-charge of the pediatric ward and found out what the actual situation was. The doctors have confirmed that his meningitis is almost cured but that he needs another minor surgery in Siliguri for which his family will need an additional Rs.1.5 lakh. We have decided to try our best to generate that much money for the child since his family is not financially stable,” informed Nangshel Lhamu while speaking to NOW! today.
The NGO found out about the child through media reports just a couple of days back and since then have been actively involved in generating funds for his treatment.
“In 2007 the treatment for his condition had costed the family around Rs. 80,000 but now the cost of the same treatment has doubled. His condition which is stable now will get better after the operation and we have dedicated ourselves to help the family. Today we gave the money to the mother who was very grateful towards the support. We want to bring joy to the family and get the child out of this ordeal which is now stuck only because of financial constraints. We will thus take this up as a campaign and do our best,” assured Mohan Pradhan the advisor.
The NGO has also requested all those who want to come forward and help the child to do so and have also stated that they were ready to collect the donations from different sectors and bring the same to the affected family.
It may also be mentioned that this is the NGO that had distributed free refreshments and provided help to needy travelers when the Singtam- Gangtok highway was closed because of major landslides last year.
