Sumin-Mangthang celebrates upgradation of village school to JHS level, directs educated unemployed to volunteer services for now

GANGTOK, 18 Feb: In an environment where people at large wait for the government to solve all their problems, welcome example of proactive community participation has came forth at Sumin-Mangthang situated above Nimtar here in East Sikkim. The village has decided that vacancies at its recently upgraded JHS will be met by educated unemployed youth of the area taking classes on voluntary basis.
The School Management Committee, Headmaster and staff, guardians, Panchayat members and villagers of Sumin-Mangthang Primary School, under Namcheybung constituency in East Sikkim have expressed their gratitude and thanks to Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and area MLA Beg Bahadur Rai for upgrading their school to Junior High Secondary level from the current academic session.

A meeting held on 17 February under the chairmanship of the Panchayat Secretary, Sancha Bahadur Rai resolved that the credit for this achievement goes directly to the Chief Minister and the area MLA.
Speaking on the occasion, headmaster ST Bhutia urged the parents to send all the dropout students back to the school and informed that this will help meet government’s target to achieve its total literacy mission.
SMC member, Arun Subba, in turn assured that the educated unemployed youth of the area will give their services voluntarily to fill up the vacancies of teachers for the upgraded classes. This free service will be provided by the local youth until the school receives permanent teachers from the concerned department.
Speaking from the chair, Panchayat Secretary Mr. Rai assured his full cooperation to the school administration and the SMC and urged them to make the school one of the most reputed schools in the state.
The meeting was conducted by the school’s Asst. Teacher, RB Chettri.
