CM convenes interactive meeting with people of Poklok-Kamrang and Namchi-Singhithang constituencies

NAMCHI, 15 Feb: Chief Minister Pawan Chamling convened an interactive meeting with the people of Poklok-Kamrang and Namchi-Singithang constituency today here at the Community Hall. The Chief Minister, it may be recalled, had contested the last Assembly elections from these two constituencies and retains the Poklok-Kamrang seat present. The meeting was held to discuss development issues of the area and to update the people on the various schemes and policies of the State Government in general.

In his address, the CM remarked that complacency and selfish pursuits appear to have taken primacy over public service among many officials and offices tasked with special responsibilities in service of the people. He will now be focussing his energies on ensuring better delivery, he said.
He also informed the gathering of the State Government’s policy decision to directly construct houses for BPL beneficiaries instead of distributing aid under schemes like Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojana, Indira Awas Yojana and other such schemes. Locally available materials will be used for these constructions, he informed, while also assuring that all basic amenities will be reached to the people down to each GPu.
As the area MLA of Poklok-Kamrang, he urged the people of his constituency to make land available for the construction of a lock Administrative Centre.
On the larger issues, he contended that while Sikkim was among the better developed states as far as infrastructure and government investment was concerned, what was required now was greater people’s participation.
In this regard, he commented that Sikkim was still awaiting a responsible and responsive civil society and panchayats. Although decentralisation has been delivered, it is yet to manifest itself strongly enough due to the limitations of the panchayats and the slack commitment of the people, he said.
